Car not ready to drive error

You may see the message “Car not ready to drive” on the dashboard. This usually means the vehicle is not in a drivable (READY) state, or the booking has been immobilised.

If you are looking for help with locking or unlocking the vehicle, please refer to I can’t lock or unlock the vehicle.

Try these steps first (READY check)

  1. Make sure your booking is started and the vehicle is unlocked.
  2. Sit in the driver’s seat, press the brake firmly, then press the Start button.
  3. Confirm the vehicle is in Park (P).
  4. Look for the “READY” indicator on the dashboard. If READY is on, the vehicle is able to drive.

Check for immobilisation (most common if there’s a payment issue)

If you’ve received notifications about a declined payment, the vehicle may be immobilised until the payment issue is resolved. The Rental Agreement allows immobilisation after a consecutive second declined/dishonoured payment, after notice to you.

  • Resolve the payment issue in the app (if available).
  • If you’re still stuck, contact RIIDE support.

If you see warning lights or fault messages

Do not drive the vehicle if it appears damaged or unsafe.

If a warning light or fault message appears, you must inform RIIDE immediately.

Contact RIIDE support and we’ll help with next steps.
